Moosa Salie: Psychiatric Survivor

Hello everyone. Welcome to my personal website which is brought to you with the kind support of OISM.

I live in Cape Town, South Africa and I am a survivor of psychiatric deception and lies. Many of us unfortunately who regard ourselves as survivors have actually experienced the brunt of the abuses in the psychiatric system, being either forced drugged or incarcerated against their will in mental hospitals in the name of receiving treatment. There are also some of us who have been electroshocked, placed in seclusion cells, physically restrained as well as being abused while being hospitalised.

By the grace of God I have been spared most of this. But what had happened to me was that I had been lied to and duped into taking dangerous drugs that had seriously affected my health.

I invite all of you to share in my experiences in the user/survivor movement and hopefully you can gain a lot from my talks and other resources which will in due course be added to this site.

My philosophy is that we the user/survivors are all family, if not by blood, but in fact by the common bond of suffering in our lives, be it as a result of the circumstances which had precipitated our breakdowns in the first place or as a result of being subjected to the disabling effects of psychiatry.

My story is an ongoing story and here in Cape Town along with a handfull of friends I have committed myself to the struggle of championing the human rights of all people who regard themselves as users or survivors. Who are the user/survivors? The Statutes of the WNUSP gives the following definition: “A user or survivor of psychiatry (hereinafter referred to as “user or survivor”) is self-defined as a person who has experienced madness and/or mental health problems and/or has used or survived psychiatry / mental health services”

If this definition applies to you or if you are just plain curious; come on inside.
